Bowl of Lemons and Limes

This painting was based on a photograph taken by a friend. This friend has a close cousin living in California with whom she often visits, and the bowl was on display in their home. As soon as I saw this photograph, I knew I wanted to paint it. I liked trying to capture the texture of the fruits, the shiny wooden rim of the bowl, and the strong lighting from the left. There was also something interesting about the decoration on the bowl and how it played off against the fruit.
