This painting was also based on a photograph I took in Italy during my 2023 trip. I first noticed his bright blue shirt, and the juxtaposition between the very old architecture and the very new technology of his cell phone. I also noticed his fixation and deep concentration with what he was doing, and that piqued my curiosity about what he may have been thinking about as he seemed to play with his phone.
