Mother and Son (Ruth and Michael)
About
This painting was made from one of the most moving photographs I have ever seen. Once again, it is my close friend’s mother making close eye contact with her son shortly before his passing. He was in his late 50s at the time and had become disabled after brain surgery as a child. Ruth, along with her husband, dedicated their entire life to his care and only for the past couple of years of his life did he live in a care facility. He spent most of his life at home being cared for by his parents and his younger sister, my close friend. This moment was captured by her on film, and the moment I first saw it, I knew it was very special. Once I began painting, I looked forward to the opportunity to capture this moving scene. The painting was a gift and hangs in my friend’s home.
