Row of Tourists in Rome

I made this painting on an unusually sized canvas because I had found it in my art studio and felt I should put it to use. The painting was based on another photograph from my 2023 trip to Italy, and in order to fit the interesting part of the image, I had to cut off the top half of the photograph. I felt like I needed enough room to accurately capture the gestures and expressions of all the figures in the scene. I really enjoyed the focus required to identify the important features of each individual and in a sense, to tell each of their individual stories. Although the figures are fairly small, I spent more time on this painting than on many others I had done previously.
