Grandparents together

This painting was commissioned by a friend and her husband to give as a gift to his grandfather. I was provided with a few photographs from which to choose, and this one seemed best to paint given the pattern of light and shadow, and given their embrace. I was told that the grandmother had recently passed away, so they wanted their grandfather to have this painting as a way to represent the wonderful relationship they had. The presentation of the painting to him was recorded and sent to me, and it felt great to see how touched he was. Apparently, the painting hangs in a central place in his home.
